maybe tomorrow
my nightly bitching

This is getting to be something of a trend.

You know what really sucks? Walking out of the university lab at one in the morning to find that your car is coated in ice so you have to spend a good ten minutes scraping it before you can drive home. Then it’s so foggy as you come off the hill that you have to drive at 20 mph (yes I’m in Canada.. but my car’s from the US.. the speedometer is in mph and I’m too tired to convert right now) most of the way home.

I’m getting really tired of that. Scratch that - I’m just plain really, really tired. And I’ve been so busy that I’ve been eating crap. Today so far I’ve had mac and cheese for lunch, a cinnomon roll, a small back of Doritos, a snickers bar, and a carrot. This is most definately not of the good.

Oh.. just a week and a half or so and this will all be over until next term. Let’s hope that I can survive it.

Bed now. Class in seven and a half hours.

I hope all of you down in the states are enjoying your four day weekend. Wish I had one.

Have I mentioned that this week really sucks?

another long day..

Not only did I forget to take the CD I’d just burned yesterday, I left the CD that I did have in the computer I’d been using. Fortunately I remembered this morning and it was still there.

It was another long day today. It’s not Thanksgiving here, alas, so I spent the entire day at school again. My first class started at 9:30 and I left the computer lab right on the dot of midnight.

Bleh. I don’t have class tomorrow, but I’ll be at school in the lab all day anyway. I’m really getting tired of this.

I’m such a moron when I’m stressed

I burned a bunch of songs I’ve been listening to over and over and over to a CD right before I left today. My hope was that if I had my headphones on in the computer lab (which can get very loud sometimes) I would be less likely to slack and talk to people. That and I just plain wanted to listen to music.

You know me. Of course I left it sitting here on my desk at home.

Oh well. I’ll take it tomorrow. It’s going to be another exruciatingly long day.

loooong study session

Back from the university…

Well I sort of got a decent amount of stuff done. So much for fewer distractions though; there were way too many people to talk to in the lab. I don’t think that any of us were very productive.

Nine hours went by so fast I couldn’t even believe it.

I saw it!

I saw it! I really did!

Sarah linked to one of those funny 3D stereogram thingies where you’re supposed to stare at a pattern until you see the 3D image pop up. I went and looked, but of course I didn’t see it, because I never see those darn things. Seriously, for a while they had a few on the wall of one of the halls of my highschool. I’d stare at them every day, but I never once was able to see the image. This time was no exception; I stared at the one she linked to for the longest time and didn’t see anything.

Then I clicked the link to the main page and chose this one at random. Right away something just sort of slid into place and I saw them! The dolphins as clear as day against a flat background. It was incredible.. it seemed as if I could just reach right into the computer screen and hold one in my hand. I tried to; I really did. I’ve got a big finger print on my monitor now.

You would not believe how amazed I am by this one picture. I feel as if I’ve never seen anything so beautiful before. I don’t think that anything has ever looked so.. real. I really shouldn’t be this excited over something so silly. It’s quite possible I’ve gone insane.

I stared at them for a full minute before something slid the wrong way again and I was once more looking at a strange pattern. Now, of course, I just spent a full fifteen minutes staring at it trying to see the dolphins again with no luck.

Oh well. Back to studying again now.

(edited to add: I saw it again! This is so cool. Ermm.. right studying. I think I’m heading up to the University to work.. I’m more likely to get stuff done there. Now what the heck have I done with my portable cd player?)

monday positives

This is shaping up to be a hellish week. It’s the last full week of the term (I think there are normal classes next Monday, but then we’re into finals) and I have an unbelievable amount of stuff to do. Wednesday I have a ton of homework and a lab due for one class, Friday I have a program due, Monday I have a completely evil prolog program due as well as a huge group project that we haven’t even started thinking about coding yet. This is not going to be any fun.

Now, after all that negativity, here are my Monday positives.

  • It is the last full week of the term! That means I’m almost done.
  • I really, really like this new blog skin. It’s by far the best design I’ve ever managed.
  • M is probably going to get a couple thousand dollars of graduate scolarship money for next term. This is of the good. We really need it.
  • Despite the above complaints about workload, I think I have a pretty decent chance of getting everything done on time and still doing it all well. It’s going to be rough, but I’m feeling pretty positive about it at the moment.

horrors

It’s strange going to PETA’s website and having an add pop up for Burger King. It is an ad for the BK veggie, so it’s not completely out of place (though the burger isn’t actually vegan… and just vegetarian isn’t good enough by Peta standards), but it’s still very strange. It’s not so strange as back when vegsource.com was run under about.com for a while and occasionally adds for meat or leather products would appear on it.

Speaking of PETA, this is absolutely sickening. How could anyone think that’s an appropriate thing for children to see? What’s wrong with those people? Yes.. let’s do more to desensitize our youth to violence and suffering because they certainly aren’t getting enough of it from TV.

There’s the boyscouts of America for you, doing their part to raise the next generation of murderous, homophobic little pricks. And I know that was completely unfair of me because the whole orginization shouldn’t be held responsible for the actions of a single troop leader (though I certainly hope he got a call from the council informing him of what a bad choice he made) and every boyscout troop shouldn’t be held responsible for the descisions the council makes since they don’t have a say.. but I’m upset and HORRIFIED and what kind of idiots are they?

dizzy now…

It’s all Willow Much’s fault that I’m quite dizzy now. She’s the one who sent me to this page.

My favorite is “Air Mails.” Another of my favorites stands alone on this page.

one crisp bite (new journal entry)

There’s a new entry in the journal.

I’ll warn you that it was written under the influence of cramps and a ton end-of-term stress. It just might be rather offensive to some.

Lessons from a wondersheep…

I learn something new every day. Today I learned that cats are reincarnated teacher’s. Knowledge a la Sheepy.

sheep: cats are reincarnated teachers
kim: uh huh….
me: really? I hadn’t heard taht before….
lij: new to me too!
me: Care to explain, Sheepy?
sheep: I jsut invented it
sheep: hold on
me: Ah. I like your mind :-)
sheep: Brain is slow to come up with new karmic theory
sheep: this late on a Friday night
sheep: the good teachers
sheep: the ones who buy school supplies out of their own pocket money and stay late to tutor kids
sheep: when they die they are reincarnated as cats
sheep: so that they are pampered and loved and totally taken care of in the manner they should have been as teachers.
sheep: The end

Also from Sheepy, this wonderful site.

certain other songs

And then there are a few songs that make me go “oh my.” They come on and I have to stop whatever I’m doing and just sit and bask in how beautiful the music is.

“Konstantine” by Something Corporate is one of those..

Oh my.

---
certain songs

There are a few songs that make me go “oh yeah, baby” when they come on.

They make me want to get up and move. I could never turn the radio/cd player/winamp off before they end.

Tom Petty “Last Dance with Mary Jane” is doing it to me right now..

---
easily amused

You would not believe how long I’ve been amusing myself today by hitting refresh on my own page after every time the song in winamp changes so that I can see the blogamp list change.

Yes, I’m perfectly aware that I’m a complete dork, thank you very much.

Being easily amused is a good thing.

---
new skin addendum

Oh, and if you are looking at the new skin, look to the left to note that I’m using blogamp now. I plan to add it to the other skins at some point as well.. someday.. when I get around to it. I had to download an older version of winamp to make it work. It doesn’t work with winamp 3.

new skin

This isn’t the new skin I mentioned the other night. After I (finally) went to bed, I was hit by an inspiration and this is the result. Or at least, this is the result if you are still on the default skin. If you’ve chosen another one, click here to see it without changing to it, or here to change to it. I haven’t added it to the skins page yet.

And yes, there were at least twenty way more important things that should have been doing during this the time I spent making this.

Let me know if things don’t look right. Unles you’re in IE 5.x and all that looks wrong is the links on the side are overlapping the main content area.. I haven’t gotten around to fixing the strange way IE 5.x does stylesheets yet. Will do that tomorrow.

still here (and a milestone of sorts)

I’m still here. Still up too, though I don’t know why. The more tired I am, the less I want to go to bed. I’ve always been like that, but I’ve never really understood it. I’m just strange sometimes.

I dug myself into quite a hole with excessive lack of not studying. Digging my way back out is what has what has kept me too busy/distracted to post for the last little bit. But I’m still here and doing mostly okay.

I’ve been up late and back up again early lately. I’ve had only about four hours of sleep a night or so for the past little bit. Which brings us back to the question of what I’m still doing up; I’m not studying or doing anything I need to do. I was working on a new skin for a bit, but that’s really not important.

__

In other news, when I went to click on new entry just now I noticed that the number of entries is 499. This will be entry 500. Half a millenium.

one of those days

Yes, that was me just a few minutes ago trying to get money from an ATM using my student ID card. It’s been one of those days.

Speaking of money, I discovered today that payphones still cost only twenty-five cents for local calls here. I think it’s up to fifty cents now in Portland.

---
a big waste of time

Well I’m almost ready to leave the computer lab at 12:15 at night by the computer clock (12:20 by my watch). I’ve been here since six. I feel good about maybe two hours of that time. The other four hours was spent re-doing the logic of my prolog programs only to find out that the logic was find and the failures were the results of typos.

Gah! I wish there was a simple way to debug stupid, freaking prolog.

end of Haloween

I finally seem to have realised that Halloween is over and done with, so I’ve changed the default skin (for those of you who haven’t chosen a different one) to something a little less Halloweeny. The Halloween one is still on the skins page (see link at right) if anyone wants to return to it.

Umm.. yes, I am pretty much just posting because I hate having my blog empty like this… How did you know?
