maybe tomorrow
and the hunt is on…

One of the things that didn’t get written about during the week due to my computer outage is that we were approved for the morgatge we want.

I still can’t quite believe it.

Even more bizarre, we are now just about to depart with a bona fide real estate agent on a house hunt. What are we, adults or something?

I don’t really expect to find anything today; I mostly just want to see what is out there.

We are not quite ready to buy yet, except we sort of are. We want to move pronto, and all the money is in place. We are just sort of stuck in our lease here until July.

I’m nervous and excited and anxious and really annoyed about the stupid lease. And off we go.

shh.. the computer fairies are sleeping

Either that or they don’t like me any more and have moved out of my computer all together.

I’m talking about the little magic creatures who live in their and keep things running.

About a week ago, I went and pressed the button on the front of my computer (the equivalent of knocking on the fairies’ door) and they didn’t answer. There was no welcoming sound of warming up. They didn’t even turn on the little lights on the front on.

I checked all the cords to make sure that they were being properly fed. I tried again. Still no answer.

Mein Computer ist kapput. I don’t know the German word for computer. Perhaps it should be Meinen [insert German word for computer] ist kapput. Even if I did know the word, I most likely wouldn’t be able to tell you the gender. I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be Meine; I can’t imagine them making a computer a feminine noun.

Ummm… anyway, M, who is not aware of the fact that is little fairies living in their that keep things going, thinks that it is the power supply. In my saner moments, I tend to agree with him. This is of the good as power supplies are reather cheap; probably much cheaper than hiring new fairies.

Until we get around to purchasing a new one (maybe tomorrow.. no reference to title intended) I’m using his. I’m not liking it. I think his fairies are rather lazy; mine were much more efficient at bringing pages up.

That’s why I haven’t been around this week.

Also, I doubt that anyone is expecting email form me any time soon given my abonimable record in regards to replying, but really don’t expect it soon as all my old email is locked up in the dead machine over there. Just as soon as I get it running again I will start getting caught up. I really mean it this time.

Speaking of babies..

Congratulations to Jan! She’s beautiful.

to softly sleep

My big girl just fell asleep in her crib all by herself.

We’ve periodically tried either nursing her to sleep then moving her to her crib or ptutting her down tired to go to sleep with little success. The former only occasionally works. The latter has never worked.

Mostly she just sleeps with me. We’re happy that way, but at the same time not. I love cuddling with my little girl, but I don’t like leaving her in the bed alone for fear of her rolling off, nor do I like being stuck in the room because I don’t want to disturb her or leave her alone.

It’s been a while - like at least a month - since we bothered to try anything with the crib. Tonight I wasn’t quite ready to go to bed when she was tired, so M lay her down in her crib with a shirt of mine to see what she would do.

She played and talked for a while. Then she went to sleep.

I guess she just needed to grow up a little bit. She’s a big girl now, and so she can go to sleep by herself. Then again, maybe it was just a fluke…

If not, I’m going to miss my cuddly little baby. Of course, I’m sure that she will still end up with me a fair bit. However, if she really can sleep in the crib now, that is probably where she will spend most of the night.

The problem tonight is that we weren’t really expecting her to go to sleep, and so we weren’t ready for it. She’s in the wrong diaper; the current one won’t last her through the night. She’s in her pajamas, but she isn’t wearing one of her sleepsacks, and I am hesitant to put a blanket over her because I know her and I know that she will just pull it up over her face.

So I guess she will most likely end up with me after all tonight.

already?

Eep.. one of the moms in my due date forum is pregnant again already. I can’t even immagine.

Except.. I did have a dream that we were trying the other night. In my dream Baby Girl was over a year old though.

I can’t even immagine having two so small. Strike that; I can’t even immagine having two, period.

checking in

Just wanted to let whoever is out there know that we are back home again.

I do want to write more about the trip, but dinner is on, so now is not the time.

All in all, it was good :)

wouldn’t you know…

Just as we are getting ready to leave town, the damn roof starts leaking! Drip drip drip in our upstairs hallway.

I don’t like the thought of the maintenance people being here without us. If they let any of the cats out…..

Oh well. If we owned a house, we would have to stay and take care of this, so at least there is a bit of a bright side.

I just really hope that they can take care of this from above without coming in our place.

viva las vegas

What exactly does viva Las Vegas mean, anyway? Someone please tell me.

We are off for the weekend to see my cousin get married. Back very late Monday night.

There is tons that I have been meaning to write about, but our flight leaves in just a few hours and there is still packing to do, so now is not the time. I predict lots of writing when I get back though.

Bye for now.

feeling all feminine

What do I have in common with a wookie? Not much any more!

I’ve found recently that spending all day feeding and entertaining a little girl leaves little time to care about certain less important areas of personal hygene. Showering and brushing teeth: yes, anything involving equipment more complicated (or sharper) than a toothbrush: no.

However, today I was feeling particularly gross. And so I strapped Little Girl into her car seat, and it was off to the bathroom for us. She hung out in her little seat on the bathroom floor and played with her toys and talked to me while I took care of about a month’s worth of growth. Lovely, no?

Now my legs are smooooooooth.

It’s great. We really must do this more often.

Just thought I’d share the joy :)

dinner last night

M has been on a low carb kick for quite a while now, which makes things rather difficult for me as most of my cooking consists of pasta, potato, or bread based foods.

There is this lasagna recipe that I used to make that he absolutely loved, but now he wasn’t too thrilled by the thought because of the carb issue. I read in a magazine the other day that you could use sliced zuchini in place of the noodles, but I wasn’t to thrilled by the idea.

Still, worth a shot, right? I sliced the zuchini into long slices about half an inch thick and baked them at about 400 for twenty minutes or so to dehydrate them a bit. I then made the lasagna as usual with the slices in place of the noodles.

It was great! I think that I actually liked it better than normal.

Now if I could just find replacements for the egg and cheese so that it would be vegan…

bewbies on TV

So Justin Timberlake tore at Janet Jackson’s wardrobe and millions of football fans who had tuned in to watch the super bowl saw a bit of flesh. I missed it myself. I’m not a football fan.

Federal Communications Commission (news - web sites) chief Michael Powell (news) said in a statement, “Like millions of Americans, my family and I gathered around the television for a celebration. Instead, that celebration was tainted by a classless, crass and deplorable stunt.” He promised an investigation, with potential fines of up to $27,500. If applied to each CBS station, the fine could reach the millions.

It’s a breast, people. It’s meant for feeding babies, though many men go gaga when they see them and would like to keep them as their own personal play things. Still, it’s just a bit of flesh covered in skin with a nipple, though in this case it may have been adorned with some strange ornament.

What is going to happen now that the world has caught a glimpse of Janet Jackson’s tit? Will there be chaos in the street? Will our children suddenly start praying to strange and unsettling gods while snow falls in July and the moon comes crashing down?

What’s all the fuss about? Grow up already.

cleaning in the night

Poor Munchkin girl.

We were out and about yesterday and completely destroyed her nap schedule, not that she has much of one. Finally it got to be almost six in the evening and she had only napped a few minutes here and a few minutes there. She was so tired she fell asleep in the car and stayed out when we carried her in. She napped in her car seat for three hours.

She finally got up for an hour or so and then went back to sleep. I thought she was going to sleep for the night, but nope, it was just another late nap. Around midnight she was up and wanting to play *sigh*

The bad news was that I was very, very, very tired. The good news is that she was happy to play in her swing and exercauser - normally she needs me to entertain her. As a result, I was able to make use of the time to clean. My house is cleaner than it has been in months! This is depressing, because really my house is still a huge mess. At least my kitchen is spotless for once.

Oh, for a dishwasher. I am a terrible housekeeper. I just can’t stay ahead of things.

I do dishes every day, but I never seem to get all the way done. Some days I’ll get ahead and there will be far fewer dirty dishes at night than there were when I got up. Some days I fall behind. Most days I get them almost all the way done, but there always seems to be at least a few that I don’t get to. Counters are the same. I’ll move everything from one counter to the other so I can scrub them, but they are never both clear at the same time.

In short: I am disgusting.

My late New Years resolution is to keep the house cleaner.

eleven munchkin pictures

I’ve had this entry sitting here in draft form for about two months just waiting to publish it until I added just a couple of lines of code to a style sheet to get rid of the blue borders around the pictures…

Such is my life these days.

Anyway, here are a bunch of pictures from the first couple of months. Click to see bigger.

The one in the stroller and the other outside one are from her first long walk. Those would have been back in September when it was still warm and she was only a couple of weeks old.

The one where you can just barely see her face inside of her car seat is from the day after Halloween. We have had snow on the ground since then. This is also the latest of these pictures as it was shortly after taking it that I had intended to post them…

The one in the center is probably my favorite picture of her out of all the ones that we have taken so far. It was taken October 28th; she was still a little shy of two months then. The one in the upper right where she is sleeping is another of my favorites.

I’ll post a bunch of more recent photos soon. Really.
